Trade Wars 2002 Electronic Mall
and ADD-ON by Neil Dupree

Note: This Program is SHARE WARE... IT IS NOT FREE! To make full use of
the Trade Wars 2002 Electronic Mall send a SASE and a $5 MONEY ORDER to:
Neil Dupree
527 Alexander Street
Schenectady, NY 12308-1223
As soon as I recieve your money order, I will send you a registration
code. Please allow 3-6 weeks for delivery.
Although the Unregitered version of this program has all of the current
features, it WILL ONLY WRITE TO the Trade Wars data files for ONE USER.
You must make an account on your BBS with a USER NAME of SYSOP. The mall
will act as if it is registered for this user ONLY. For any other
account the Mall will be unregistered and not write to the TW2002 data
files.
With a registration code you will have a complete working version of this
program. And the registration code will be valid with all future
versions of this program that are written for TradeWars 2002 V1.03 (the
only version of TradeWars that the Mall currently works with). When the
Martin's release a new version of TradeWars I will try to upgrade the
Mall and hopefully not charge another fee. BUT I CAN'T make any
promises. It took alot of time to write this program, and I will be
adding more services as time goes on. So I think you're getting your
money's worth.
No as for what the Mall is....
The TradeWars 2002 Electronic Mall started when I was playing TW2002 one
day and said to myself, Gee I wish I could borrow money from the bank.
And many other ideas popped into my head as well.
Currently the Mall has the following services:
CQ & V Loan service... Which will give loans to players.
If a player defaults on a loan, they will loose their ship and
a large percentage of their experience.
Cecil the P.I. will tell (for a fee) where another trader is
hiding. Unless of course the other trader is 'Cloaked' or
in a citidel.
Intergalactic Transwarp Towing, these guy will
tow you anywhere, instantly.
Fid Dentor's Custom Ship Shop. Curently he will sell evil players
black market photon torpedos. And add more
holds/shields/fighters to a ship eyond normal spec (with a
catch). A modded ship will loose mods when porting, but this is
still handy.
The turn bank. Allows players to deposit/withdraw turns for
future use. Max turns in acount is configable.
Federation Payroll office. Let's players receive money from the
federation as a 'salary'. (for commisioned traders)
Other services will be added in future releases.. Lemme know if
you have any ideas...
All transactions with the Mall are done through the Galactic Bank,
players have money removed from their account to pay for all services.
Well that's the Mall in a nutshell. The Mall is not so much a program
that was written, more accuratly it 'evolved' and is allways growing. To
this data Version 1.3.1 is the most current. New releases will allways
be available @ The City Morgue BBS (518) 393-2499 1200/2400/9600. Other
boards closer to you may have newer versions also. If you include a
WWIVnet address when registering, I will try to e-mail you when new
releases are available.
Please note: If for some reason you do not like a particular service in
the mall, each service can be deactivated i.e. "closed". For example,
people have said they don't like the idea of p-missles on any ship. So
the custom shop can be closed or the price for p-missles can be set to
over 10,000,000.
With that said lets move on to instillation...
Version 1.2.0 was a major revision over all previous versions.
Installation is alot different so READ THIS SECTION CARFULLY!
The Mall now has support for a Fossil Driver (I have tested with BNU). If
your BBS uses a fossil driver, skip to the section FOSSIL VERSION
:WWIV (and compatible) BSS Setup:
Unzip the file TWMALL.ZIP into your tradewars directory. I will assume
your bbs is in C:\WWIV and TradeWars is in C:\WWIV\TRADEWAR. If your
directories are different make the approriate changes as explained below.
Run the program MALLCFG.EXE (it should be in your TRADEWAR directory).
Select System Parameters. Now select 1, when prompted, enter the
directory WWIV is installed in (i.e. C:\WWIV\ ) make sure to include the
ending '\'. Now select 2 and specify your TradeWars directory (i.e.
C:\WWIV\TRADEWAR\'). Select 5 and respond YES. If you have registered
TheMall enter the registration code you recieved from me using selection
4. When Finished with the above, select 'D' for done!. Select 'D' again
to end configuration.
Now logon to your BBS and go to \\chainedit. Create a chain for The
TradeWars Electronic Mall. Use the following setup:
Set Dos interrupts to NO. You may need to shrink the BBS. ANSI should
be optional. The program to run is MALL.BAT. Mall.bat will run from the
BBS directory i.e. C:\wwiv if that is what you use.
You now have to make two small changes in the batch files that came in
the zip. Go to Dos, I recomend exiting the BBS and edit MALL.BAT (should
be in your TradeWars Directory) using a text editor. Find the line that
reads CTTY COM2:, change this to the com port your BBS's modem is in.
Save mall.bat and copy it into the WWIV directory. Edit the tw2002.bat
file that came in the TWMALL.ZIP and make the same change. Save
TW2002.bat and copy it into the WWIV directory. Note: If Tradewars is
installed in any directrory other than TRADEWAR directly underneath WWIV,
you will have to make the appropriate change to the cd tradewar command
in both MALL.BAT & TW2002.BAT. Make sure you delete the two batch files
in the TradeWars directory, they are no longer needed in that dir as they
should now reside in your WWIV directory.
The mall is just about ready to open. Now you just need to go to the
section Channel Data: and finish the setup.
FOSSIL VERSION:
Due to numerous requests for a less WWIV dependant version of the Mall,
Version 1.2.0 now provides a new feature, the ability to work with a
fossil driver. 1.2.0 has been tested with BNU, and I hope it will work
with other fossil driver's, I just can't be sure. Also since the fossil
version is for Non WWIV boards, the mall will now read a dorinfox.def
file.
Since I don't know what BBS your using, you'll have to understand that I
can't be exact in these instructions. The first step is to unzip
TWMALL.ZIP into your tradewars directory. Delete the MAll.bat and
MALL.EXE files that were included (you don't need them). Run MALLCFG.exe.
Select System parameters. Select '5' BBS type. When prompted, respond
NO to the question "Is this a WWIV BBS?".
Select 1, enter the path to the directory the DORINFOx.DEF file will be
created. If your BBS does not create a DORINFOx.DEF file, you can use a
program like DOORMASTER(or a similar program) to create one.
Select 2, enter the path to TradeWars. Please remember to include the
ending '\' in the path.
If you have regestered (or when you register) the Mall. Use option 4 to
enter the registration code. Remember until the Mall is registered, IT
WILL NOT WRITE to the TradeWars data files.
Press 'D' for done with system parameters, and press 'd' again to quit to
Dos.
In your BBS directory create a batch file that will change to your
TradeWars directory, run Mall.Exe, and return to your BBS directory ...
for example:
MALL.BAT
cd tradewar
mall.exe
cd ..
Edit your TW2002.BAT file that you use to run TradeWars and insert the
command 'pregame' at the line before tw2002 is actually run. Pregame
handles defualting on loans and such.
Now all you have to do is run MALL.BAT as a DOOR/ONLINE Game from your
BBS. After the Mall exits, youu should note that the fossil driver
REMAINS ACTIVE!. If you wish to deactivate it, refer to your fossil
driver manual for further instructions.
Channel Paramaters:
The last step in installing the Mall is to configure each of the
'Services'. Run MallCFG and select 'C' Channel Data. The options are
all self explanatory except for the options in the Loan Service.
The Formula for determing how much a player may borrow is as follows:
Minimum loan+(addtional credits*players exp) as long as its less than
maximum loan.
i.e. Assume 'A Trader' has 200 experience points minimum loan is 100,
additional credits is 10. 'A Trader' could borrow
100+(200*10)=2100 credits. If this is more than the Maximum loan,
they could borrow the max.
If all goes well, you should have the unregistered version installed..
Have fun looking it over. And if you like what you see, send me a money
order for five dollars and an SASE for a registration code. If your on
WWIVnet, be sure to include your user & node number so I can e-mail you
with announcements of new version (and better docs), which will allways
be avail for Download at The City Morgue BBS (518)346-2499
Please feel free to let me know of any ideas you have for additions to the
Mall, I am trying to make this program live up to the name
"User-Supported". Almost all revisions to the mall have been at user
request. I am working on some other "services" and hopefully full modem
support to make installation with the varied BBS's out there easier.
